Summertime and the Livin' is Easy
Welp, it would seem summer has landed in NYC, and I can say with confidence we are ALL ready for it. After winter finally finishes its month long death rattle and spits the last of its tired-ass cold breath, that perfect few weeks of hot sun and dry air pulls all the hidden city dwellers out into the light.
The grills and griddles of various avenue street fairs are firing up. The Hispanic ladies selling expertly sliced mango drowned in lime juice and ground cayenne pepper scatter across the busy corners of the city. My wife’s favorite summer indicator, the tiny shaved ice cups found in spanish harlem for $1. Summer time in NYC is more than weather and street fairs, it’s fresh fuel to a dry tank. It renews our hope and drive and reminds us why we chose to move to this often too self serious, cold, and unnecessarily difficult place.
Summertime here means motion. It’s a great time to be in the city, but it is non stop. It can be impossibly busy, but we gladly shoulder that burden, especially when the tasks consist of meeting friends at the park to drink secretly in public, adventuring to the far reaches of brooklyn to find some sand and salt water, and hunting an outdoor bar or restaurant that isn’t completely slammed. It’s summertime and the livin’ is easy.
